Profile

Lindsay Robertson is a Scottish Photographer who has been working in advertising and commerce since the early seventies. Having established successful studios in Glasgow and then Edinburgh his invaluable experience and creativity continues to be sought after by a selection of national companies in various sectors.

This body of work by Lindsay, who has always had a passion for Landscape Photography, has been captured over the last twenty five years and many of the images have been used in specialist calendars and international advertising campaigns.

Lindsay has made a number of visits to locations in the USA with regard to a personal project about Scots born John Muir. Linking the inspirational images of Ansel Adams with the visionary John Muir, men who both made a profound impact on our understanding of the environment.

In 2005 Lindsay was invited to The Hermitage artist's retreat in Engelwood Florida, America's only 'by invitation' artists retreat. Lindsay was the first photographer to be offered a residency there. During his residency his work came to the attention of the George Eastman House in Rochester New York - the worlds pre-eminent Museum of Photography.

Subsequently Lindsay was personally given the opportunity to bring the Eastman House's collection of Ansel Adams images to Scotland. This the largest and most significant exhibition of Ansel Adams images to be compiled and shown in the UK. The collection entitled Celebration of Genius consisted of 150 images and was returned to archive after this showing. The offer of this joint exhibition was given in support of Lindsay to spearhead the photography that he is currently engaged in.

Lindsay is honoured and privileged to be the only British Photographer to have exhibited alongside Ansel Adams, arguably the most revered landscape photographer in the World. After 3 years of planning, the exhibition showed at the City Art Centre Edinburgh Scotland, and consisted of Lindsay's Scottish and American Landscapes images.

In keeping pace with technology I have adapted to what I believe is the ultimate in print quality. I am off the opinion that photography is ' light ' on paper, not ink on paper. I prefer the look, feel and quality of a traditional Silver Rich Gelatin Photographic Print. This printing is a time served process where the archival permanance has been proven since its introduction in 1870 - unlike pigment or ink based printing.

Image is everything, and the print is the canvas by which photographers exhibit their art.

Photography is in a profound state of change in relation to digital imaging, the biggest change since its discovery. The consequence being that new processes and materials are constantly being developed, in addition to advances in digital manipulation. No longer is a 'photograph a photograph'...there are now a variety of printing processes available. I have gone full circle and have come back to time served traditional printing, however I also welcome the new technologies and employ them in a way which enhances that traditional printing.

Image is everything, which is why I dont print to limited editions.

It is the image which is the worth not the number of prints available. The iconic image Moonrise at Hernandez by Ansel Adams is one of his most popular images. Throughout his lifetime he produced 1400 original prints of this image, confirming the fact that the image is the worth.

Photography is by its very nature a reproducable art. A photographic image is unique and each photographic print when hand crafted is also a unique original print. That is the beauty of Photography which needs to be understood. No other art has this ability. The aesthetic variation, in conjunction with processing and printing material variances makes each print a distinctly original creation.

All Silver Gelatin Photographic Art Prints receive archival processing from start to finish, including treatment in Selenium Toner for maximum image stability. If properly cared for by it's owner, will last for well over 150 years without visible loss of quality. Each crafted print is signed on the print mount itself, not the print, as the print is dry mounted on archival board.

As a guide - The Silver Gelatin Prints start at £ 350 for an 8" x 12" mounted and unframed print (£495 framed) up to a print size of 4 feet a 3 feet at £ 1845 Framed. All frames are premium quality museum grade frames incorporating TruVue glass.

Mural Prints are supplied in a presentation unglazed frame and start at £ 2345 for a 5 feet x 4 feet print, and up to £ 3645 for a 8 feet x 4 feet print.
