the theme ·
Love and respect for the wilderness then and now - our legacy
.
"Nature is always lovely, invincible, glad, whatever
is done and suffered by her creatures. All scars
she heals, whether in rocks or water or sky or hearts. ..."
John Muir
Inspired by the work and vision of Scottish born John Muir, Lindsay
embarked on a project to capture the dramatic landscape where
Muir's vision flourished over 150 years ago. In celebration of
the majesty, granduer and intimacy of nature that inspired John
Muir, the founding father of the modern conservation movement,
and responsible for establishing the Sierra Club.
Ansel Adams, himself an ardent conservasionist was a director
of the same club. Lindsay Robertson has combined their pioneering
work by capturing "a moment in our time" to
celebrate the Genius of John Muir and Ansel Adams, the men and
their landscape. Coast to coast Caledonia to California.
George Eastman House's collection by master photographer Ansel
Adams has been breaking attendance records at museums around
the USA. By special arrangement with the Eastman House Lindsay
Robertson has secured Scotland as the last location to view this
extensive collection of Adam's work, before it is returned to
its archive in the USA.
· a timely reminder ·
At a time when mankind is becoming more aware of environmental
issues, the nature photography of Ansel Adams and Lindsay Robertson
is a poignant reminder of the wonderful world in which we live
and the
custodial responsibility we have for future generations.
" Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people
are beginning to find out that going to
the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity..."
John Muir 1898
